Problem: Washer stops during rinse cycle and makes a buzzing sound. It does drain or spin.
Washer is a Maytag MAV8000AWW (one belt drive)

Model Number
MAV8000AWW
What have you tried so far?

I have tested the lid switch by bypassing. No effect.
Replaced the motor, thrust bearing and drive belt.
Pulled the agitator to see if there were clothes wrapped around the drive shaft. Nothing there.
Removed the top tub cover to see if there was an obstruction between the inner and outer tub. Nothing there.
Pulled the hose from the pump to the tub to check for blockage. Nothing there.
Greased the motor mounts to ensure it was moving freely.
I can get the machine to complete the cycle after it stops mid cycle by unplugging the machine and jacking up the front of the machine a few inches in order to access the drive belt. I manually turn the belt a few times clockwise a couple of turns. I plug it back in a turn it on where it stopped. It then starts draining and spinning. It completes the cycle normally.

I am sorry,i did not see that you replaced the motor,I read that as the” motor drive belt “. It is common for the timer on this model to stall right and the beginning of the rinse/spin cycle. I have attached the service manual for your model and it will have all step by step measures to take in solving your problem. Good luck.

Your motor runs in 2 directions, one way will agitate transmission and the other direction will unlock brake and spin tub.The problem is most likely and bad start winding on the reverse operation of the motor, which is why a few turns get is going. The part # of the motor is WP21001950. I have attached a video on this repair for you.

Sam – I just replaced the motor 2 days ago. Is there anything else it could be ? When you start it. It fills, agitates, spins and drains. It then fills with water but does not drain. If the winding is bad, how can it agitate and spin with no problems to begin with ?
