The compressor is running and pulling 1 amp. the condensing coil is clean and both fans are running. I installed a service valve, on the suction line, at the compressor. when i attached the gauges it immediately went to 29 inches of vacuum. I unplugged the unit and it stayed at the same value. in your opinion what does this indicate. i’m waiting on r134a to be delivered so I haven’t tried adding any refrigerant to this point.

Hello
If you are at a 29 inch vacuum , you have a 95% chance of a leak in the system. You could also have 5% chance of A restricted filter dryer or capillary tube. The way you would trouble shoot is by weighing in refrigerant by the nameplate ounces. If it comes up to 2-4 lbs. suction pressure and you have an even frost pattern you have a leak. If it goes back down into a vacuum you have a restriction and need to replace the filter dryer. See video link below on refrigerant leaks. https://www.appliancevideo.com/?cat=45&s=refrigerant+&post_type%5B%5D=post&post_type%5B%5D=premiumvideos&post_type%5B%5D=fromthefield&post_type%5B%5D=embdvideo
