Hi. The first thing I would check is air flow. Restricted airflow will cause longer dry times. Make sure the vent is clear, that the lint screen is not clogged, and the blower housing does not have lint build up. If airflow is good, you may have bad gas coils. When the coils wear out they will give heat for a portion of the cycle and then give no heat until they cool back down. You might be able to see them fail. If the igniter comes on and then turns off without a flame the coils are bad. Have the customer start the dryer up 30 mins or so before you get there so those coils have enough time to fail before you get there. Attached are some gas coil videos.

GOOD MORNING BRIAN. OFF COURSE AFTER I PULLED THE MACHINE APART, I NOTICED A FULL DRYER SHEET ON WHAT I BELIEVE TO BE IS THE AIR OUTLET ON THE BACK OF THE DRUM. IT WAS COVERING 3/4 OF THE HOLES. BEFORE THIS I CHECKED THE AIR FLOW ON THE VENT OUTSIDE THE HOME AND IT SEEMED OK. I WATCHED THE DRYER CYCLE FOR A WHILE AND IT SEEMED FINE. IT WOULD IGNITE AND STAY LIT FOR ABOUT 8 TO 12 SECONDS. I REMOVED ALL THE EXCESS LINT AND DEBRIS FROM INSIDE THE DRYER AND PUT IT BACK TOGETHER. I THEN RAN IT FOR A WHILE AND CHECKED THE VENT OUTSIDE AND IT WAS MUCH STRONGER. SEEMS LIKE WE GOT IT, RIGHT? I THEN GET A CALL FROM THE CUSTOMER SAYING THAT HER MOTHER HAS SEEN THESE DRYER SHEETS ON THE BACK BEFORE AND HAS REMOVED THEM PERIODICALLY. SEE ALSO TELLS ME THAT SHE TRIED TO DRY SOME TOWELS AND THE DRYER IS NOW MAKING A MILD GRINDING NOISE AND THE TOWELS CAME OUT VERY TWISTED AND NOT DRY. HELP!!!!!!!!!!! THANKS, TODD FROM NY.
  • Yes. The dryer sheet would have blocked air flow. That definitely was the issue. Sounds like something may have gotten down into the blower wheel causeing the noise and long dry times now. Never really seen a dryer twist clothing. Maybe the belt slipped off the idlerr and is not spinning the drum right.
