Customer complains of strange noise claiming to come from freezer section. (sounds like a jet)
I have yet to hear this after 3 visits to the home. Is this style of evaporator fan motor notorious for making noises like the older fan motors (WR60X10185), or should i be focused somewhere else? Any help of any kind is appreciated.
P.S. the fresh food fan has been changed out by GE.

Hello

I think your noise due to ice on the blade causing it to be out of balance. Install fresh food fan moisture kit (WR49X26666). The kit replaces the duct tower and fresh food evaporator fan. The kit should only be used if moisture is found on or around the fan blade and not for other fresh food fan noise concerns. The new duct tower assembly allows moisture to flow below the fan and prevents moisture buildup on or around the fan blade. The fresh food fan kit has already installed by GE
  • So you are sure they installed the updated kit WR49X26666 ? Have you gone to the call yet ? The most common cause of this type of noise is the evaporator fan motor.

I have been to the call and the refrigerator has a sticker inside the unit, that says the fresh food fan has the updated part installed. Also the homeowner states that the noise is coming from the freezer section.
  • I would take apart the evaporator fan motor housing cover to see if the blade has moisture or ice on it. If it does and you can hear the noise coming from the motor, replace the updated kit WR49X26666 . Depending on when GE was there they have updated this kit three times. Does the customer have the paperwork to see if its the most current WR49X26666 part number ?
