I went out to customers house and checked this frigidaire s/s refrigerator
I CLAMPED MY METER ON THE ONE LINE OF THE CAPACITOR RELAY AND IT WAS DRAWING 1.8 AMPS. tHEN i TAPPED ON THE drier and the amp draw went to 1.08 I checked the temp and it did start to cool some degrees so i told custoer to keep and eye on it and that maybe now the compressor would do its job. Later got a call from customer said it was still warm. So when the compressor is draweing 1.5 plus amperage it means there is a constriction some where in the line but if it is drawing 1.5 or below than the compressor is doing its job. .05 amp draw low on freon or compressor on its way out. So pls bring some lite to this

Hi. Did you install a valve when you tapped the system? If so the best thing to do would be to put your gauges on it to see what your pressures are. We see a lot of refrigerant leaks on these units. How is the frost pattern on the evap? If it is heavy or a ball of ice where the line fist comes into the evap and no frost on the rest of it, that would be a sign that it is low on charge. .08-2.0 amp draw is normal for a compressor. The older the unit the higher the amp draw could be. It could have a faulty compressor or a restriction as well. Restriction is not likely. To find out any of the sealed system problems for certain you will need to check pressure with gauges. One test you can do to check for a leak is unplug the unit while the compressor is running and plug it right back in quickly. If the compressor turns right back on and does not trip on its thermal protector then it is most likely low on charge.

Brian i never opened the system i tapped it with a screw driver . Some other tec had told me about tapping the drier and evidently it unstopped it and that is why the amperage drwaw went down. And i did not install a piecing valve either. No eye balls on evaporator.I am focusing on amperage draw. .5 or below equals no freon 1.5 up to 2.0 normal. But why if amperage was staedy at 1.08 and still no cool. Thanks Brian for your input maybe you can anser my questions if i am making any sense at all.
