This is a nice looking GE side by side fridge. Mold is all over the styrofoam and foam stripping in the FF evaporator area. So these mold spores are blowing all around the inside of the refrigerator and you can see that they are growing wherever there is moisture in the fridge. Is this a design flaw in the unit? Has anyone else dealt with this and been successful at getting rid of it? Even if I went through all the work of replacing the Styrofoam, freon lines insulation, and foam stripping I think it will return. The temps in the fresh food section were 48 degrees. I replaced the temperature sensors in the FF section. I could not find a part number for the sensor on the evaporator but I replaced it with a WR55X10025. I’m waiting to hear back from the customer to see if the fridge cools down to normal. Evaporator fan in FF working fine. Thank you for any advise.

Hello
I have not encountered this on a G.E., but I have on Sub Zero. In that case after the temperature problem has been corrected and Sub Zero advised us to strip the refrigerator section and clean everything with a mixture of 1 part Clorox bleach to 3 parts water (a 25% ratio) and clean everything in the refrigerator with this solution. In our case we used a tub to submerge the parts that could be submerged and then a garden sprayer to attack everything else. Make sure to get this solution everywhere into all cracks and crevices and remember only dead mold shows up as black, brown, blue or gray as the case may be, because live spores are invisible to the naked eye. Also have the customer clean all containers that will be returned to the refrigerator with this same solution, or toss them, do not re-introduce these contaminated items into the newly cleaned refrigerator. In the few cases where we have done this service, we have had no additional problems and it was not necessary to replace contaminated parts in the refrigerator, the cleaning did the job. One of the primary causes of mold is air entering thru the drain tube. This is a common occurrence lately, and may be the cause of your situation. Since this is an imported model with a slight history of freeze issues on the evaporator, I would suggest you replace the drain tube end with whatever is the latest part on the lookup. Warm air directed up the tube causes moisture, freezing, and probably contributes to the mildew issue.
