originally it was in “critical failure” with the LED lit indicating the lid switch failed. I jumped out the lid switch and there was no change. I then switched out the board from another machine. It was no longer in the “critical failure” state. The machine won’t do anything. I have 120V at the J8 terminal. I’m thinking that both boards are bad, I need to find a way to confirm that’s the case. The LEDs light when I turn the selector knob. I have tried to start it in all the cycles.

Okay Mark, the Kenmore brand machine you have was actually made by G.E. and this type of washer will not perform with a bypassed lid switch. The part number for the lid switch is WH12X10334 .Since the original indication was a lid switch failure you must start with a new lid switch to go any further. The lid switch is fairly inexpensive and is most likely your issue.
