We have a Jenn-Air/Maytag Appliances JDS9860AAP oven, which displays an F1 error code not long after reaching a preheat temp (typically 350). After clearing the error, it eventually comes back multiple times as the oven cools and has to be cleared each time as it cools its way down.

What have you tried so far?

We recently ordered and installed a replacement remanufactured 5760M301-60 control board, however on the first test it tossed the F1 error code even sooner than the previous control board. With the first control board, we’d typically have around 20 minutes of cook time after reaching the desired 350 temp. With the ‘new’ board the error came on less than 5 minutes after reaching the preheat temp. The upper front panel of the oven (the section with the display, buttons and dials) gets too hot to hold your hand against the stainless from the middle to the right of the panel. That has been the case with the remanufactured control board in place, as well as the previous control board. It’s hard to say but our guess is we never had the front panel be so hot prior to the F1 error codes showing up.

Hi. I have attached the tech sheet for you on your unit. There are several F1 error codes. There should be a dash and another number with the “F1”. So, it should look like F1-7. What is your full error code. Look on page 8 of the tech sheet for the list of error codes. Sounds like the control board was not the issue. With the panel getting to hot, it sounds like the cooling fan may not be running, or air flow is blocked preventing air circulation to keep the controls from overheating. This will cause and error code. Let me know if that fan is running and what error code you are getting.

Hi Brian, thanks for the re:. We’ve never had anything display except F1 … no dash or trailing number. Below is a link to a current F1 error picture. I tried page 8’s steps to get to quick test mode, however we don’t have a Cancel button (as you can see in the picture). I used the Stop/Clear + Broil buttons instead but nothing ever occurred. This was tried by tripping the breaker, holding the buttons down and then having the breaker turned back on (verified by display lights off/on). When that didn’t work the buttons were released and held down again multiple times (within page 8’s 5 minutes of power-up window), but nothing ever occurs. We never saw a more specific F1 error with the previous control board, and never tried the Broil+Stop/Clear combo with the previous control board. Re: a cooling fan, where would this be and how would we know if it’s running? We typically don’t have the downdraft fan on, and the convection fan at the back of the oven does turn if the oven is being used in convection mode. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/17584974/IMG_2265.jpg
  • It look like the cooling fan motor is located on the back of the unit. It is p# WP74004947. Take a look at the parts diagram. http://lookup.appliancevideo.com/lookup/69433/408047/19#19 . It is number 19 on the diagram. I have actually had this exact same issue on this unit. It ended up being the control board that fixed it. The unit I had just displayed F1 as well, and I could not put it into test mode because it did not have the cancle button either. I called tech line and they couldn’t figure it out either. I have looked through all of the F1 error codes and there are only 3 parts parts that are associated will all of them .The control board, touch panel, and temperature probe. You have already replaced the board so we are left with the touch panel and probe. It does not seem like the touch panel is the issue. We can check your temperature probe with a multi meter if you have one to see if it is good or bad. The heat that is getting to the control board and touch panel could be creating the issue, so we need to check that the cooling fan is running. The tech sheet does not tell us if the cooling fan comes on at the beginning of a cycle or once it reaches a certain temp. With out the convection or downdraft fans on you should be able to hear this fan run. If not you may need to pull the unit out and take the back panel off to have access to the fan. IF it is not running we can check for 120V to the fan. IF we have 120v and its not running the fan is bad.
