The icemaker tray won’t dump if I push the test button it will dump sometimes but most times it won’t. The tray has a regular amount of water in it there is no spillage it seems to be a mechanical issue? Is it as simple as replacing the ice making unit in the door?

Hello
The first thing you need to check is temperatures. Make sure you are getting proper temperatures or the ice maker WILL NOT cycle. LG refrigerators are very common for sealed system refrigerant leaks or defective compressors. Go to page #65 in the service manual link below for sealed system diagnostics and page #66 for ice maker diagnostics.
