I have had several of these were customers complain about noisy fan and then when I look at it there is a giant block of ice right in the center of the evaporator just below the evaporator fan as if the fan was not coming on when I should have and it froze over right there. Is there a recall on these? Could it be the main control board not turning the fan on when he needs to or is it most likely the fan on these models that I have seen this issue several times on?

Hello
What we have seen is this symptom is caused by a starved evaporator / Sealed system issue starting. Is the unit freezer getting normal freezer temperatures ? You should be -5 degrees to +5 degrees. If you are not sure put in a pint of ice cream and see if it stays solid for 24 hours. Ice cream needs +5 degrees to stay solid. There is one service bullitin link below that coud cause this issue also with Condensation/Frost on the Ice Maker Fascia ( Service bullitin ) . See technician manual and all bulliten links below. Costumer says it’s intermittent and been accuring two weeks. And it’s in the middle of the evaporator not near the welding points.

So it it on the actual evaporator ? If so look at the two service bullitins and check your freezer temperatures.

Any updates on this? I ended up not fixing several and referred the people with the issue to a different company which they later told me resolved the issue but I’m not sure how.
