This refrigerator is a side by side made by Whirlpool with the ice maker on the freezer door. Has electric eye, also on the freezer door.
Need to know how to make the icemaker run. Do these new style electric eye flash an error code?
I have tried jumping the ice maker thermostat and disconnecting power to refrigerator. Then plugging back in after a few minutes. opening and closing doors and waiting to see if ice maker would run. no run. Made sure ice bin was in place. This would work with the older version of electric eye, but doesn’t seem to work with new version on the door. Old version electric eye would flash or give error code. New version just stays on steady but not all the time. Any help would be appreciated. Have seen video on how to replace new style electric eye, not how to diagnosis or make the ice maker run.

Hi. I have attached the tech sheet for your unit. The ice maker tech sheet will explain how to start and ice maker cycle. IT seems like you were doing it correctly or close. It does not appear that you can cycle the ice maker in the diagnostics. You can fill the ice maker with water in the diagnostic mode. It is common on theses units to have a broken wire to the ice maker at the bottom of the door preventing the ice maker from cycling. Check for continuity through each of the ice maker wires from the wires plugged into the ice maker and then at the connector under the toe panel on the front left side of the unit.

The Tech. sheets are going to be very helpful. I tried a new icemaker. Didn’t work. I suspect electric eye, or broken wire at bottom of door. I know there were wire problems with older Whirlpool made refrigerators and you had to get a new freezer door. What is the solution for broken wires on this model. Splicing with butt connector is usually temporary solution. Thank You , Jim D

Hello
See ice maker operation . If you are looking to check the optics look at the manual link below for the complete optics system.
Kenmore Ice maker operation
1) After the freeze cycle time has elapsed (36 minutes for normal operation and 29 minutes for
Acceler-Ice), the main control board will send 120VAC to the ice maker.
2) When the ice maker thermostat senses a temperature of 17° +/- 3°F, the thermostat closes.
3) At this point the current now has a path through the thermostat to the motor. (The motor rotates
the drive gear. Inside the module there are copper contacts that ride on copper strips and are
driven by the drive gear. As the drive gear rotates, the contacts will make or break circuits to
control the ice maker operation).
4) The motor will start rotation and the mold heater is turned on.
5) The ejector fingers will stall on the ice cubes until the heater warms the mold to release the ice.
6) The ejector fingers push the ice out of the mold.
7) After the ice is ejected, the motor continues to rotate the drive gear.
8) The water valve is then energized for 7.5 seconds
9) As the water valve is energized, a signal is sent to the main board which turns on the water inlet
tube heater (This heater will stay on for 40 minutes).
10) Every time a harvest occurs and the ice maker fills, the heater will come on again for 40 minutes.
When the ice bin is full, the heater will not be energized. This may cause the ice maker water fill
tube to freeze over a period of time.
11) Once ice is used from the ice bucket and the level of the ice drops below the infrared beam, ice
harvesting will begin again.
12) The ice will be removed from the mold and the ice maker fill tube heater will turn on when the
water fill valve is energized.

I down loaded the file. A wealth of great information. Now I’m confident I can solve the problem of no ice. Thank You very much, Jim D
