The above happens every time causing tub to be out of balance and spills some water when water level switch is on “high” setting.
The out of balance only occurs for approx 10 seconds before enough water is pumped out and then operates normally.

What have you tried so far?

New timer….didn’t help.
I now think it may be something to do with the water level switch system?

No service manual is available on this unit. I have tried searching similar models also to no avail. I think the most we are going to find for this is a wiring diagram. I have attached a wiring diagram for a similar unit. It is difficult to look up kenmore model numbers for different information since they did not make the machine. It sounds like the issue is with the pressure switch or hose. Make sure you hose is not clogged by blowing through it. Also, did you check all of your balance springs? The timer is what creates your pause, so the timer is not your issue if you have already replaced it. You could also have bad snubber pads causing the unit to get off balance. I have attached a video for this repair.

  • One other thing that could be possible is the water is not able to drain out fast enough. Does the unit drain slow? Is the drain set up properly?

Hi. My first thought would have been the timer too. I see a new timer did not help. The timer has a pause or delay to allow the transmission to drop gears in place before spinning. All of the water should drain out first. Then spin should start. If the lid is opened or the timer is stopped and then started again during this time, the washer will then start to spin regardless of the water being drained out or not. It does sound like you could have an issue with the water level switch or pressure hose. The both come together. I have attached a link to the part and to a repair video for you. If the water level switch is not faulty you may have an issue with the transmission.

  • Also check all of your counterbalance Springs at the bottom of the washer. The rear spring is common to break where it attaches to the bottom rear of the cabinet. This can cause your off balance issue.

That’s it? I gave you that much in my description! I realize all of the water should drain out first, that is the problem. My Wife says she doesn’t think it matters which level the switch is set at. It doesn’t pause. I asked for a service manual? Maybe that would help. Thanks
