Hello I am having issues figuring out why this damper will not stay open. Here is everything I know.

Freezer temp reads at 2 degrees.
Refrigerator temp reads at 64 degrees.
The evap fan motor is running constantly.
After power cycling the machine the damper will open for (about) 60 secs and then close.

Model Number
Pshs6pgzbess
What have you tried so far?

I have replaced both the board, damper, and temp sensor (refrigerator side) with none solving the issue.

I have attached a link to a page that has the instruction sheet to 2 GE boards very much like yours. Please click on and read each page of the instruction sheet and if you do find that you may cut the wire at the J2 connector DO IT IN A WAY THAT CAN BE WIRED BACK TO ITS ORIGINAL STATE * In other words, * make sure you make your cut (if needed) in the very middle so that the wires can be put back together if needed.

Thank you for the instruction. I went ahead and followed the instructions closely and cut the wire at J2 (there was no capacitor in this machine so I did not need to cut any wires near the compressor). The customer checked in with me 12 hours later and the refrigerator has not changed in temperature.
  • Very strange you have replaced everything that controls the damper operation. The damper, control board , and temperature sensor. Also, following the instructions for the pin 2 wire on the j2 connector. I would replace the freezer thermistor at this point. If that does not solve it you may have a damaged wire somewhere.

Hi. What was the part number of the control board that was replaced? Did it have instructions with it? When the new control board is installed it may be necessary to eliminate one of the wires on the J2 connector. It will explain this in those instructions. This is directly related to the damper operation. Make sure that the damper is your issue. Very uncommon for these to fail. It is normal for the damper to open and then close on startup. They open back up after some amount of time. Sometimes if you adjust the temperature and hold the door switch in it will open it. Could you have another issue causing your warm temps in the refrigerator? Fan motor not running, clogged air flow, defrost issue(frost build up on the evaporator).

The part number is wr55x11033. I did not notice any paper with instructions in the box but it might have passively thrown it away. As I stated previously; the evap fan motor is running well. I have also checked the coils in the freezer section and they are good. The frost build up is normal. I will also state that the freezer temp is very stable. As for air flow; If I remove the damper as a whole then the refrigerator will get very cold and there is a good flow of cold air pooring into the refrigerator section. This is what leads me to believe that there is something wrong with the operation of the damper.
  • Hello You need to get the instructions for the wr55x11033 board and follow them based on your model and serial number. If this is a universal board and has specific instructions on installations , It will need to be installed correctly . That my be the cause of the FF damper not opening . Go to your PDA and see if there are instructions in the box.

I have checked with both of my parts distributors (marcone and 1st source) and they both do not have the literature that you speak of. Can you provide me with these instructions please? Thank you very much
