Hello, I am working on a french door GE refrigerator that cannot hold consistent temps in the freezer. The proof of this is in the ice tray. My customer’s ice seems to melt together into one big ice block and then re-freeze its self. There is also a large amount of frost on the food inside of the freezer.
(Also GE will not appear in the brand section of the question format page so I selected Norge since it was the 1st thing to pop up)
I have checked for air leaks in the seal and found none.
I have requested that the customer fill the freezer up to 2/3 full of food. This has not helped.

Hi. The frost in the freezer would be an indication of warm air entering in. Double check the door seal and see if the customer is closing the door all the way. Does the unit run constantly? Check to see if your condenser coils are dirty and if the condenser fan motor is running properly. Also, check the frost pattern on your evaporator. make sure you have an even frost pattern. You could have a sealed system issue. Is the evaporator fan motor running?

Hi Brian and thanks for the quick response. The evap fan motor is running and the temps in the refrigerator are good with the exception being the freezer. The coils are clean. After checking the evap I did find a large block of ice where the gas line comes in. Could this be the reason?

You’re welcome. The block of ice is a symptom of a sealed system issue. Does the evaporator have an even frost pattern? If you’re getting no Frost or a partial Frost pattern across the evaporator along with that ball of ice that would definitely be a sealed system issue.
