The flame will ignite sometime for 3 sec. Or less or sometimes for longer. But when the flame is not on it had a very strong smell of gas. Inside the drum.
I disconnected exhaust fan so I know that’s not the issue.
However sometimes the flame goes on and it does not smell like gas.
Most of the time the flame goes on for 3 seconds then goes off and has a terrible smell of gas

You most likely have a bad gas valve coil. We have replaced quite a few coils for the reason you are stating. I have attached the service manual for you
