Good morning. I did not see the fridge yet, but I was hoping that I could get some of the most common problems with this unit., and what to look for. Thanks, Todd from NY.

Hi. The light switch is in the refrigerator control ( user interface). The issue must be with in this part. P# 242048309. Take a look at the tech sheet I have attached. Upper right hand corner of the wiring diagram it shows the lights controlled by a magnetic switch inside of the U.I.

Excessive Frost in the Freezer on Top Mount
Freezer compartment demonstrates excessive frost buildup.
Prolonged frosting may result in warming of the fresh
food compartment. The following conditions can cause
or contribute to excessive frost in the freezer:
• Excessive infiltration of warm, moist air due to
poor door seal.
• Poor function of the defrost system.
• Infiltration of warm, moist air through the drain
tube or ice maker fill tube opening.
• Inefficient dehumidification of air due to bypass of
air around the evaporator coil.
Symptoms: Frost build-up in the freezer

Hi Matt. I checked the evaporator fan and it is working fine. There is cold air entering the fridge, but not enough, I removed the duct and saw the damper mostly closed. I disconnected and removed the damper and reassembled the duct.. Fridge started fine and ran with no codes. The air flow in the fridge did not see any better, and the temp in the freezer is now only reaching 15 and the fridge was about 55.. How could the temp in the fridge not go down if the damper is wide open?

See link below for refrigerator light switch Part #: 240505801. It looks on the parts diagram to be located in the top of the freezer section or near the divider between the bottom of the refrigerator section. https://www.searspartsdirect.com/model-number/FGHN2844LF1/1428/0161000.html?searchType=modelSearch&q=fghn2844lf1&searchTerm=fghn2844lf1

HI MATT. I TRIED THAT SWITCH, IT CONTROLS THE FREEZER LIGHT. IN THE WIRING DIAGRAM YOU SENT IT SHOWS THAT ITS ON THE CONTROL BOARD. PLEASE REVIEW IT AND CONFIRM IT FOR ME.
