Hello, I pulled the cover off my igniter on my gas dryer, and the flame will ignite for about 5-10 minutes and then goes out.

Hi Graham. Are you having an issue with the dryer not heating? Normal operation of the flame on a gas dryer goes like this. First the igniter will glow bright orange, then the gas comes out and ignites and produces the flame. This flame will stay on for a couple of minutes and then the flame will go out. After a few more minutes the igniter comes back on and the process is repeated. The thermostat in your dryer cycles the heat (flame) on and off to maintain the design temperature of your dryer. If your only getting heat at the beginning of the cycle and you see that ingiter glow orange and then turn off with out the flame coming on you have bad primary and secondary gas coils. I hope this was helpful.
