I had read, in the past, that the time the system takes to equalize can indicate the problem in the sealed system. Is this the case, and if so can you elaborate?

Hello
The unit needs to have equalized pressure on the high and low side of the system before the compressor will start. If it is not properly equalized the compressor will cycle off on the overload. If the pressures take too log to equalize you could have a restriction in the capillary tube or filter dryer preventing the system from equalizing. A normal time to completely equalize should be 2-5 minutes. Matt Ace technician

I recall reading that if the equalization happened at a very slow pace it was indicative of blockage(?) and if went very fast it indicated something else. Does this sound familiar to you at all? You have all been very helpful to us during this past year. Thanks and happy holidays. North Myrtle Beach Wholesale
