I have inherited a problem Amana BR18 Top/bottom refridgerator/freezer that is barely cooling the top but is freezing below, though with some defrost issues. I have been told that the prior tenant had attempted to fix some problem within the unit & that the fan motor was messed with in an attempt to repair the unit somehow? Can you help me possibly diagnose this problem? If so I will buy any new parts from you for the repair. Your help will be appreciated. Thank you.
Well actually I have only visually inspected the unit. In doing so I have noticed an uncovered fan motor running in the bottom freezer section. It is blowing out towards the door opening of the freezer and is attached at the back from the inside, sticking out dangerously & uncovered. It also seems to be constantly running. I believe the current motor was attached by the ignorant prior tenant without any knowledge of what he was doing. Someone reaching to the rear of the fridge could be cut or push some food into the constant running fan blade and damage something. Actually after viewing some online videos of other bottom freezer units, I believe that motor should probably be attached from the back of the unit blowing in to the freezer from the rear if most of the bottom freezer units are close to the same as far as how they are set up. The funny thing about this is I am about to attend HVAC training for a year starting next month. I guess my learning is going to start a little early. I can send a picture of the jury rigged setup if it might help in a diagnoses for this problem. Thank you for any assistance you might be able to offer. I will appreciate any help you guys can offer and promise to buy any replacement parts from you entirely if you are confident that we can solve this problem.

Tim, I am assuming you are referring to the evaporator fan motor in the freezer section. If it is running in reverse it will cause this issue. Many of the universal motors can be switched to run ccw or cw . That is counter clockwise or clockwise. Send us the complete model number and what rotation the motor is running so we can help further. Also a picture if you can take one. Matt Ace technician
