Wash “Dry Clean Only” Linen, Cotton & Polyester Clothing in Your Washing Machine

Constantly having to dry clean your clothes is expensive, and at times, an inconvenience to endlessly haul a load back and forth. Thankfully Yumi Sakugawa from WonderHowTo has shared amazing tips to wash your “dry clean only” clothes right at home. First, you’re going to want to look at your clothes label to see what it’s made out of—this dictates what you can and can’t get away with at home when it comes to dry cleaning. It goes without saying, materials like suede, taffeta, velvet, and clothing with delicate beading and stitching work should be left to the dry cleaning professionals. You can, however, wash materials made out of linen, resilient polyester and cotton right in your washer. Simply toss your articles of clothing in a mesh bag, turn your washing machine to a gentle cycle using cold water only, and make sure to use a mild detergent. Once the washer has finished, remove your clothes immediately and hang or lay them flat to dry. Do not place your clothes in the dryer. That’s a big no-no. Yumi has an awesome infographic you should check out at the link below, and goes into more detail on how to get away with hand washing your fine silks, wools and cottons.
