You know the small plastic berry baskets you get from your local Farmer’s market? It’s time to rinse off the strawberries; that basket is perfect for your dishwasher. Instead of tossing out the container, Bruce Lubin, an author over at The Huffington Post, uses it as an opportunity to save those teeny tiny items that are easily tossed and lost in the dishwasher. All you have to do is place a basket in your dishwasher, and secure it in place. Depending on the berry container, you can wedge it between the spindles, and place rubber bands or twist ties around the edges for a good hold. It’s best to keep the basket on the top rack so no plastic melting action goes on during the wash cycle. Once the berry basket is secured, go ahead and toss in small lids, utensils, toys, bottle tops and whatever oddly small items you have right into your basket. Your small items will get a good washing thanks to the holes, and allows for easy drying with your other dishes. It’s a money-savvy way to use what you would have already thrown out otherwise for something super useful.
