Uh oh, did you accidentally shrink your sweater? Perhaps it ended up in the high-spin cycle of your washing machine, or was in the clothes dryer for a little too long. Don’t fret, you may still be able to redeem your sweater, and all will be well again. The Budget Fashionista has an easy solution to get your article of clothing back into shape. Place your shrunken sweater right in your kitchen sink, and fill it up with a mixture of hair conditioner and lukewarm water, soaking it for around the 15-minute mark. Then, drain your sink, and press your sweater against the sides of the basin to get excess water out. It’s important NOT to wring out your article of clothing. Next, lay your sweater onto a big, fluffy towel, and use another one to gently press out the water. Now’s the fun part…stretch out your garment, though be mindful while doing this, as you wouldn’t want to overstretch it. Finally, allow your sweater to dry, and lay it flat…no one wants those weird hanger bumps on the shoulders. It goes without saying, this tip will work if there is minimal damage. If your clothing item has shrunk to fit the size of a 4-year-old than this probably won’t work—also, this technique will not work if your sweater is super felted. Though, if worst comes to worst, you can always check out upcycling for your super shrunken garment on Pinterest as an idea. Don’t give up quite yet, as this could be the solution that you’re looking for…and it’s easy enough to give it a shot.
