Without spending a ton of money, you can turn your appliances into renewable energy hybrid machines thank to blogger Jason Poel Smith from DIY Hacks and How-Tos, who shared his complete instructions on Instructables. Realizing residential solar panels cost thousands of dollars, Jason figured out a way to implement renewable energy using the same principle without the enormous costs, making your appliances into hybrid machines.
Here’s how it works:
A solar panel charges a battery. When the battery is fully charged, the system turns on a power inverter and switches the appliance from running on grid power to running on the solar power that is stored in the battery. When the battery gets low, the system automatically switches the appliance back to running on grid power. By using the solar power on a duty cycle, you take full advantage of all the available solar power.
While Jason is still making improvements to his design, he turned his lamp into a solar electric hybrid for $200. With a scalable system, you’re able to power small and large appliances, depending on your energy needs.
