If you’re not a huge fan of a million different magnets on your refrigerator, switching your push pins to uniform magnets may just be the DIY trick you were looking for. Push pins are sturdy and awesome for holding temporary things such as reminders on a corkboard; why not make them better aka magnetic so you can stick them on (mostly) anything metal? Instructables user harari had just this idea to transform push pins into magnets for a uniform look on his fridge. With your wire cutters in hand, snip off the metal points off of the push pins, and grind the rest of the metal away with a dremal. Harari suggests using a bench vise to hold your push pins in place while grinding. Dab a little of epoxy glue on the ends of the pins, and stick on an earth magnet of the same diameter. Since there is still a teensy bit of metal in the push pins, you bet it will help stick to the magnet, holding it in place while drying. This a quick and easy alternative that will work perfectly for your magnetic board or metal door. Not to mention, a much safer alternative for kids (of age) than a metal, pointy push pin.
