If you have an old dishwasher on your hands, why not make it useful? That’s exactly what DIYer Randy did from Makezine.com. For a period of time, Randy used a cardboard box and a cookie sheet as a makeshift spray paint booth. He wanted something better as the overspray wasn’t contained very well as you can imagine. After he bought a new dishwasher, he realized his old one would be fantastic to convert into a spray paint booth that you can make a small 2-3 hour project out of. It’s a matter of gutting out your dishwasher: everything from removing the door, electrical components, and insulation. Basically, you’ll want to strip the whole dishwasher down until it’s down to its empty cabinet. Randy added a fluorescent light, sealed the drain hole with a bucket lid, and made a lazy Susan to top it off. Before you know it, that old dishwasher was a spray booth much better suited for him than the cardboard box. Now, Randy did not install a ventilation system since he doesn’t work with toxic paint vapors. Though, if you do decide to convert your dishwasher into a type of booth where you will be working with toxic vapors, a simple ventilation system shouldn’t be too difficult to rig up.
