Hunker down and keep your home toasty warm before the first snowflake falls. If you’re tired of heating the great outdoors with your hard-earned cash, then it’s time you insulate your drafty, old windows. With bubble wrap and plastic film. Yup, double insulation is where it’s at. Goodbye energy transfer.
Jeff Patterson from Home Repair Tutor shows you how to insulate your windows in his video below. All together, the project is inexpensive – around the $25 mark depending on what you have already; such a small cost compared to savings in the long run.
The common materials you need you can get at any home improvement store or department: bubble wrap, a plastic film insulation kit, scissors, packing tape, and a hair dryer.
The method is simple. You line the perimeter of your window frame with two parallel rows of double-sided tape from your insulation kit. Then, remove the back of the double-sided tape that is closest to the window, and apply the bubble wrap to the sticky sides. You can use the packing tape for added security and adhesion. Cut off the remaining bubble wrap with your scissors, and snip off any excess wrap to fit your window. Then, remove the outer layer of double sided tape, stick on the plastic film from your kit, and blow-dry it to remove any wrinkles.
