If you, like most of us, have rusty tools in your basement or garage, it’s time to bust ‘em out. Whether they’re beginning to corrode or are so rusted they can’t even open, we found the perfect solution for restoring and cleaning your oxidized tools. Instructables user foobear shares his method on how to remove rust using common household items. You will need some apple cider vinegar, salt, a plastic dish for the tools, an old toothbrush, and some oil. From there, submerge your tools in the vinegar and pour salt on top. Wait for 24 hours, and scrub the corroded tools with your toothbrush and a little elbow grease. Foobear also recommends repeating the soaking process for another 24 hours if the first time doesn’t do the trick. Rinse off your tools with some water and let them dry. Then, add some oil or WD-40 to keep your cleaned and restored tools rust-free. It’s a cheap trick that actually works. No more half-closing pliers or stuck-in-position wrenches.
