Between spilled sodas, dribbles of gravy, and cranberry sauce smeared into your tablecloth, don’t lose your mind quite yet—this calls for some heavy-duty laundering action. Okay, so it may not be that bad, but more than likely grease stains or some kind of stains will inevitably appear on your beautiful tablecloth that you just oh so much love. Blogger Laura Hill from Mama's Laundry Talk, tells you exactly what you need to do to remove stains from your cloth to keep it in tip top shape. First, you’ll need to remove any food bits off of your table cloth, and be careful not to rub in any debris—you don’t want to make more stains, or make them worse! Laura recommends the following depending on the status of your stains:
If you need to pre-treat with a stain remover, make sure it is not going to bleach the fabric by testing it on the inside seam. Some tablecloths are not made with color-safe dyes and will bleed/fade/bleach easily. If there are no greasy spots on the tablecloth, wash on Delicate/Cold. If there are greasy food stains, treat with blue Dawn dish detergent and wash on Delicate/Warm.
The delicate cycle is key, and a frontload washer works best. A top loader often will twist and wrap around the clothes spinner—adding more wear and tear to your tablecloth you’re trying to preserve in the first place. Laura goes into more detail on removing more difficult stains like tomato sauce or tea stains. Hit the link below to find out more.
