Whether you like it on a spoon, on a ‘nana sammich, in a stir-fry, or watching your dog slop it down, peanut butter is a versatile treat. The question is, who needs to buy peanut butter and compromise on the yumminess when you can make your own? Got a wok and a food processor? Good, let’s make some nut butter. Food genius Alton Brown is at it again in his fun, quirky video that shows you how to fry up some peanut butter on your stove top (he’s eating peanut butter during his entire narration, good thing there’s captions). Yeah, that’s right…FRIED. Roasted nuts are so overrated. Begin with a splash of peanut oil in a wok over high-medium heat on your stove top. Pour in about a pound of raw, shelled peanuts, and stir, stir, stir. You’ll want to reduce the heat and keep stirring so the nuts don’t burn. Continue this frying action for about 10 minutes until the nuts turn a deep, golden brown. After you’re finished frying, shake them onto a pan lined with paper towels, and allow ‘em to cool. Grab up about a cup of peanuts, coarsely chop them in your food processor, and put ‘em off to the side (hence, this is where the crunchy part of the butter comes in). Throw in your remaining nuts in the processor along with salt, honey (you could easily substitute it with agave nectar), and blend until smooth. Then, mix in your crunchy deliciousness with the smooth peanut butter—and there you have it. You’re very own homemade peanut butter. Don’t be suckered into just peanut butter. Why not use this similar process using cashews, pistachios, walnuts, sunflower seeds, or a combination? You can even fry those nuts up with some coconut oil for a delicious butter. Time to get those creative caps out!  Alton Brown just inspired us all, and nut butters will never be the same.
