Hate the Tartness of Grapefruit? Broil It to Improve Flavor

Breakfast, snack or even dessert, grapefruit is a delicious citrus fruit that you can enjoy anytime or as a quick pick-me-up. Though, grapefruit sure does have a distinct bitterness to it that isn’t for everyone. Don’t give up quite yet. If you’re looking to increase your intake of this fruit and are not too keen on the taste, Jenny Stewart of CHOW.com gives an awesome tip to boost the flavors: turn your oven to a high broil setting, toss your grapefruit in for a few, and you will have a citrus fruit experience like no other. In the video shown below, Jenny walks you through exactly what you need to do. Go ahead and shallowly cut off one end of the grapefruit to keep it in place. Then, cut your grapefruit in half, and slice around the perimeter of it. You can pour a little bit of sugar on top for a caramelized treat, or get a little crazy, and try out some hot sauce for a pleasant boost. You are your own limit, go ahead and experiment with different combinations. It may not sound too appetizing right off the bat, but the results speak for themselves. Yum. Place your grapefruit in the oven for 5 minutes on a foiled baking sheet and you are ready to enjoy.
