How do you go about cutting up a watermelon? For me, my watermelon skills never end up serve-worthy, so I just go on about life allowing others to take on such tasks (thanks mom!). Either way, it’s time to bust out that watermelon in your refrigerator. You are going to slice one up like never before - I'll even give this one a try. Ok, let’s get down to business. Facebook user, Pauline Gilmer, posted a video on her Facebook of a physical therapist cutting up a full-grown watermelon like it’s nobody’s business in less than 2 minutes. Seriously, between this and slicing up grapes in seconds, cutting fruit just became Friday night entertainment. To take on such a feat, you’re going to need a watermelon (obviously), a knife – be careful please, and a couple of 1-gallon sized resealable bags. In the video below, the physical therapist (PT) slices the watermelon in half to get things rolling. From there, he takes one half of the watermelon, and slices two horizontal lines on each side. To separate the melon from the rind, the PT slightly angles his knife and cuts around the inside of the fruit close to the rind. He makes a few crosshatching cuts in the watermelon flesh, and pours the newly cut cubes right in one of the bags. The PT repeats the same method to the second half of the watermelon. I’m super curious if this method could be applied to a cantaloupe or honey dew—it’s always worth a shot even if it may not come out as “serve-worthy” like this watermelon does. Once you’re finished with this watermelon cutting business, you’re good to serve it at your family reunion, picnic, or toss it in the fridge for a healthy snack.
