On top of everything you have to finish, from buying gifts to deciding what’s on the menu, you have a lot of your plate (pun intended). Why not take any free time you have available and begin preplanning out your holiday meal? Emma Christenson from The Kitchn recommends freezing your fully-baked dinner rolls as they are adaptable and hardy, allowing you to freeze them without compromising their texture or taste. You’ll want to bake your dinner rolls as usual, let them to cool, wrap the dinner rolls in aluminum foil and store them in freezer bags/containers. Pop ‘em in the freezer, and they are good to go for 1 month (before you run the risk of dreaded freezer burn). To thaw your frozen dinner rolls, you’ll want to remove the rolls out of the freezer the night prior to serving them. Take the rolls out of their freezer storage, loosen the foil, and allow them to thaw at room temp. Emma notes it is better to serve them warm (we agree), so you can toss the thawed rolls contained in their loose foil in the oven at 300°F for about 10 minutes. If you want to skip the thawing process, you can go straight to your oven from the freezer. Like above, you will want to remove the rolls from the freezer containers, loosen the foil, and reheat your dinner rolls in a 300°F oven for 25 minutes or so. Emma mentions it is best to serve these rolls as soon as they are out of the oven, as they tend to be a little on the dry side—though, that’s nothing a little freezer jam could solve. You are not limited to just freezing baked dinner rolls, but you can also refrigerate your dough or even freeze them unbaked.
