Bake Hard Taco Shells from Flour Tortillas on Your Oven Rack

If you’re looking to turn burrito night into taco night, don’t run off to the grocery store quite yet. Food weblog, Eating Well, shares a tip to convert those soft, flour tortillas you’ve got laying around into baked shells using your oven rack. Go ahead and preheat your oven to 375°F. As Eating Well suggests, you’ll want to work with 6 tortillas at a time, which is efficient as this whole thing takes about 10 minutes to do. To make sure the tortillas are pliable and easy to work with, some steaming action is required. Wrap the tortillas in dampened paper towels and nuke ‘em in the microwave for 30 seconds. Remove the soft shells from the paper towels, and brush each side of the tortillas with a bit of cooking spray—olive oil should work just fine, too. Next, drape the shells over a span of two bars on your oven rack. Be super careful when laying the shells over the bars especially with a hot oven going on. Bake ‘em between 7-10 minutes until they’re nice and crisp. Before you know it, you’ll have baked hard taco shells minus the frying. Fill up your shells with your favorite fixings, and you just made taco night a success. Get a little experimental and try this method out with corn tortillas or make your very own tortilla chips. If you’re not in the mood for hard shells, there are always taco bowls we’ve discussed before. Always.
