Frozen melon spheres, it has a much better ring to it than frozen melon balls, doesn't it? Regardless, almost frozen-anything is a win in my book, especially when it comes to sweet and refreshing melons to keep cool during the summer. Inspired from TheKitchn, I decided to see what else you could do with these things, and was pleasantly surprised. Plus, this is just in time for upcoming summer holidays. The following process is the super basic method to get the frozen melon spheres—it’s pretty intuitive, actually. Make sure to get ripe melons for their sweet and juicy textures. Honeydew and cantaloupe work the best with their consistencies, though feel free to use seedless watermelon too. Simply de-seed the fruit and scoop out the melon flesh with a melon baller. From there, place the spheres on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or freezer-friendly container and freeze them for a few hours. That's it. Simple. Ok, lets get down to business. Spruce Up the Drinks If you want to doll up your seltzers, drinks, or spirits with a burst of color, frozen melon spheres are the perfect way to do it. TheKitchn offers gorgeous photos in their article that you should check out. Practical for the summer and a beautiful presentation, they won't water down your drink, and add a pop of sweet flavor. Plus, the melon cubes offer an interesting finish down to the last gulp and become infused with what they’re soaked in...hint hint... Frozen Jam & Coconut Melon Ball Bites This is taking frozen melon balls from a level one to a level five. For this process, you’re going to actually freeze the melon balls last. Rachel Ray covers the room-temp spheres in slightly warmed jam (heated from the microwave), rolls them in coconut flakes, and pops the coated spheres in the freezer. It's a scrumptious light treat that has a crunch and fruity burst just in time for the summer. Easy Melon Ball Sorbet Toss in a handful of frozen melon spheres in a blender or your food processor, and blend them up. You may need to add a splash of water, but the consistency is light and flavorful. Top your sorbet creation with a few mint leaves, and you have a gorgeous and healthy snack. Treat the frozen spheres like ice cubes and substitute the melon spheres in smoothies to sweeten things up a bit.
