Use Your Dishwasher to Dry Hand-Washed Dishes

After a large meal you’ve cooked on your gorgeous stove, you probably aren’t looking forward to the clean up (it’s ok, none of us do). While your double-sink clutters with overflowing dishes and pans, you may decide to wash a few by hand. Then, you have the dilemma of a full sink of drying dishes, making your kitchen feel cluttered. Plus, dripping plates, cups and bowls stacked upon each other takes forever to dry. While a dishwasher is an amazing machine, you can’t put everything in it. At least, you shouldn’t. We’ve mentioned what not to put in your dishwasher, so if you have big bulky items or dishware that requires you to hand wash, use your dishwasher as an air-drying rack instead. (Psst—Are your dishwasher racks looking a little rough? Find out how to spiffy them up.) This storage savvy tip is a practical way to free up space especially if you’re lacking in the cabinet area…you may even consider making a pegboard organizer while you’re at it. Also, if your family goes through dishes like no tomorrow, this is a useful tactic as well. Using your dishwasher to dry your items is beneficial when turning on your dishwasher just isn’t worth it. Not to mention, you won’t be wasting paper towels or worrying about mildew-y kitchen cloths (you forgot to toss in your washing machine) for drying the dishes with. By the way, you should use your dishwasher as a drying rack because you want to, not because you have to. If you have a broken dishwasher, make sure to watch our videos for your repair needs!
