Everyone has a favorite hat. If you don’t, it’s only a matter of time…trust me. Said hat becomes filthy, grimy, and outright disgusting. What do you do? Still wear it. After a while there, you may find your hat all of a sudden missing. Perhaps a spouse decided it needed to be retired because dare anyone wash it, you would throw a hissy fit.
Well, dear friend, it’s time to wear your hat with pride without the sweat stains, hair grease, and musty odor. You can wash your baseball caps without worrying about them losing their shape. No, we’re not going to toss them in the washer…it’s all about going back to your roots…we’re hand washing these suckers. Whether your hat is your all-time favorite or you’re required to wear one for work, it’s about time they get a visit from some soap and water.
Ali from TheMamasGirls tells you how it’s done like a pro. Her method is super simple and doesn’t require much elbow grease…so no huffing or puffing allowed. All you have to do is put your beloved cap in a large Tupperware container with a pinch of dry laundry detergent, and fill it half way up with warm water. Pop on the lid and shake, shake, shake for a good few minutes. Ali mentions using a blender bottle shaker to assist with agitation. I don’t see this as necessary, but if you want the extra cleaning oomph, a couple of marbles could do the trick as a substitute. Soon enough, you’ll see dirty water form, and you’ll be left with a clean, broken-in hat. Ah, life's good.
Place your hat on the clothesline or by the fan to dry, and you’ll be good to go in no time.
Commenters on TheMamasGirl’s blog also made brief mention of using the top rack of their dishwasher to wash baseball caps. I don’t see why this wouldn’t work—just made sure not to run the cycle with dirty dishes. No one wants to wear pizza crust crumbs on their head.
